Purpose/Usage: Beconase helps to prevent and treat allergic rhinitis (including hay fever) and related conditions. Allergic rhinitis includes symptoms such as an itchy sensation in the nose, throat and eyes, followed by sneezing, stuffiness, runny nose and often watery eyes. Beconase works by reducing the swelling and irritation in the lining of the nose. It relieves the symptoms of blocked nose, runny nose, itchy nose and sneezing. It usually takes a few days for this medicine to help your nasal symptoms. You may know that you are going to be allergic to, for example, pollen at a particular time of year. It is helpful to start using your spray just before your symptoms appear, to prevent them from starting. If you already have symptoms, improvement in your condition will take a few days. If you have itchy eyes, tell your doctor or pharmacist. They may tell you to use additional medicine to treat your eye symptoms.
Dosage: For adults and children over 12 years of age: The recommended dosage is two sprays into each nostril twice daily. Once the condition is under control, fewer sprays may be possible. A dosage regimen of one spray into each nostril morning and evening has been shown to be effective in some patients. However, should the symptoms recur, patients should revert to the recommended dosage of two sprays into each nostril morning and evening. Total daily dose should not normally exceed 400mcg (8 sprays per day). For full benefit, regular usage is essential as Beconase controls the underlying disorders responsible for hayfever attacks. Beconase starts to work immediately, but may take 2-3 days to build up to its maximum protective effect. The minimum dose should be used at which effective control of symptoms is maintained. Children under twelve years old: There is insufficient clinical data to recommend use.
Warnings: You should consult your doctor before using beconase nasal spray if you: * Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. * Have had recent nasal surgery. * Have recently had systemic steroids. * Have a tendency to nose bleeds. * Have had previous allergies to Beconase. Please read the enclosed leaflet.
