Zyrtec - non-sedating hayfever tablets
Non-sedating antihistamine tablets for seasonal allergies (hayfever).
Active Ingredient: cetirizine hydrochloride 10mg.
Classification: Pharmacy Only Medicine.
Purpose/Usage: Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: Zytec is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis due to allergens such as grass and tree pollens in adults and children 2 years of age and older. Symptoms treated effectively include sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal pruritus, ocular pruritus, tearing, and redness of the eyes. Perennial Allergic Rhinitis: Zyrtec is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with perennial allergic rhinitis due to allergens such as dust mites, animal dander and molds in adults and children 2 years of age and older. Symptoms treated effectively include sneezing, rhinorrhea, postnasal discharge, nasal pruritus, ocular pruritus, and tearing. Chronic Urticaria (skin allergies): Zyrtec is indicated for the treatment of the uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children 2 years of age and older. It significantly reduces the occurrence, severity, and duration of hives and significantly reduces pruritus.
Dosage: For adults and children over 12 years of age: The usual daily dose is 1 tablet, swallowed whole with a glass of water. Individuals will vary with their response to Zyrtec. Some may only require half a tablet, e.g. people with kidney problems or those who feel drowsy if they take a whole tablet. Others may need to take two tablets, e.g. larger people or those who find one tablet is not enough. The maximum daily dose is two tablets.
Warnings: Zyrtec should not be used in those patients with a known hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients or hydroxyzine. Activities requiring mental alertness: Be careful driving or operating dangerous machinery or participating in any hazardous activity that requires full mental alertness until you know how you react to this medication. You should avoid drinking alcohol or taking sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, or muscle relaxants while using Zyrtec Allergy Treatment. Drug-Drug Interactions: Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their Doctor first. If you have kidney or liver disease, tell your doctor. Your dose of this medication may have to be reduced. Zyrtec is known to be substantially excreted by the kidney, and the risk of toxic reactions to this drug may be greater in patients with impaired renal function.
Adverse Effects: In Zyrtec studies, side effects were mild or moderate, including drowsiness, fatigue and dry mouth in adults, and drowsiness, headache, sore throat and stomach pain in children. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zyrtec allergy treatment. Please read the enclosed leaflet.
